Steps to access the cluster

Sign NDA with Intel

You can skip this step if you do not plan to work with P4 switches

Access to Intel documentations and Intel software for Tofino programmable switch family is released under confidentiality and non disclosure agreement (NDA).

Hence, the very first step in order to work with the switches is to sign a personal NDA with Intel. The procedure is as follows:

  • The head of your research group must apply for joining the Intel® Connectivity Research Program.
  • Once the application is accepted, your research group will be assigned a new identifier rgrp_id.
  • From now on, all members of the research group can submit an application for themselves to join the program. Access Intel® Connectivity Research Program User Application and fill the form using for the Group ID field rgrp_id.
    intelapp
  • The head of your research group must then confirm your application.
  • Finally, you will receive an email from Intel (~1-5 days) granting access to the Intel Connectivity web portal and online resources. Follow the instructions in the email you will receive.

Obtain your credentials

It is at this point that you will be granted access to the testbed and to the internal documentation.

Credentials for your user will be created at this step. Contact our account manager and ask for a new user. You will be provided with your credentials for the following:

  • System login: to access cluster’s nodes, see Login instructions
  • Internal documentation describing the network topology, the addressing scheme, some basic experiments for connectivity check and a walkthrough primer to move the first steps. See Documentation

Set up VPN

This is not mandatory for Politecnico di Torino members

The cluster is hosted at Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO) and only reachable from PoliTO campus network. If you are outside of Politecnico di Torino, you will need a VPN connection from your site to PoliTO network.

In order to simplify the management of VPN accounts, the preferred choice is to establish a site-to-site VPN between your respective institution and Politecnico di Torino. This is a one-time installation overhead and will not be repeated when new members of the same research group will join.

  • You or the IT department of your institution must get in touch with the cluster admins e.g., via email.
  • You will be provided with a spreadsheet and receive further instructions to fill it.

Requests for individual VPN accounts are granted to Politecnico di Torino members and may be granted to external partners in the presence of special circumstances. This will be decided on a per-request basis.
